I'm a biologist, and at the moment I'm learning bioinformatics at Johns Hopkins.
There I've learned a fair amount of Perl and Java, and I'm pretty comfortable on Unix.

Here is the financial summary spreadsheet for May 2012: [[File:HacDC_Financials_May_2012.pdf]]

The Church didn't deposit our rent check again by the end of May so our bank balance is high on the spreadsheet. It was finally cashed in June.

Rent issue aside, we finished May with a surplus of $1100! We got a $500 donation from WPA for the joint Arduino/Processing class Brad, Alberto, and I did. We also got $200 from the family we helped do a SpaceBlimp-like science fair project (also got a large chocolate bar!)

We added three member subscriptions in May (Alli R, Hana Kim, and Robert Hines), had three non-paying members, and lost three members (Emily Dunne, Maxwell Whitaker, and Stephen Nichols). Quorum remains at 15.

We now have three people paying dues using Dwolla, and it seems to work fine. We save $1.15 per dues payment through Dwolla, and I encourage anyone who hates PayPal or would like to save us some money to sign up! You just need to enter info for a bank account like on PayPal, and it takes about a week to get verified. Our Dwolla Hub page is at: https://www.dwolla.com/hub/hacdc and you can set up a regular monthly payment there. I will work on getting payment buttons on the HacDC web page. Let me (TimS) know if I can answer questions or help you sign up.
It has been suggested to connect the occupancy sensor to the phone line so people can call and check that status. As far as I can figure, the best solution is twilio. I've checked with Haxwithaxe and we can make a connection between the occupancy sensor he is building and the XML driven interface of twilio.

First off, explanation of the services involved and costs:
voip.ms - voip service that costs 1.05 cents per min. Has a lot of other features as well.

Twilio (twilio.com)- a service with a text to speech engine along with other features and is XML driven. Costs 1 cent/min inbound, 2 cents/min outbound, and 2 cents for in and out SMS which we might be able to find a use for.

Both services cost $1/mo per phone number.

I'm building a twilio XML system that when people call they have an interactive menu that:
1) Address
2) Checks the status of the occupancy sensor (which Chris is currently rebuilding).
8) leave a voicemail which the link for the message will be emailed to the members list.
9) Ring the space (when this option is being used we will be charged inbound twilio, outbound twilio, inbound VoIP.ms, or $0.04/min)

Because twilio is XML driven, we can add as much or as little to the automated menu including dynamic information being pulled from online.

For example the spaceblimp where people could call a number to track it, I believe that was twilio driven.

This way people don't have to actually contact someone in the space to call and find out if the space is open.

Tim S will have the number to provide a demo during the meeting. Note the option 9 currently rings to me and option 8 sends the notice to my email.

== The [[Board of Directors]] (Set by Bylaws) ==

The [[Board of Directors]], per our [[Bylaws]] consists of [[the Ministers]] and two At-Large Directors. The [[Board of Directors]] at HacDC is largely ceremonial. Members generally directly decide on all issues before HacDC. Only certain minutiae and other actions required by law are carried out by the [[Board of Directors]].

Despite direct membership control wherever possible, the [[Board of Directors]] remains primarily responsible for the affairs of HacDC under District of Columbia Corporate Law.

=== [[The Ministers]] ===

Most corporate law refers to "officers". [[The Ministers]] are our Corporate Officers and serve in the following roles:

* [[Coordinator in Chief]] = President and Chairman of the [[Board of Directors]]
* [[Minister of Information]] = Executive Vice President and Vice Chairman of the [[Board of Directors]] (and Chief Information Officer)
* [[Keeper of the MIBS]] = Secretary
* [[Minister of Finance]] = Treasurer

=== At Large Directors ===

The At Large Directors are the membership's direct representation on the [[Board of Directors]]. At Large Directors should be regular members who are not involved with the day-to-day running of HacDC. They are there to offer advice and perspective to [[the Ministers]] and act as a form of internal control.

===Spam===
You don't need to hesitate much about deleting spam when you come upon it. That's a wiki's self-cleaning mechanism. In fact, people manually deleting spam is the only reason Wikipedia isn't overrun by it!

If you come upon an article created by a spammer, ask an administrator to delete it (I'm not quite sure about the deletion rules on HacDC's wiki).

If you find spam inserted into an actual HacDC article, just undo the spammy edit. Go into the article's history by clicking the "history" tab, and click the "undo" link at the end of the edit description.
==Useful Links==
[[Special:AllPages]] - Here you can browse all the articles that currently exist
[[What is dislocation of the shoulder? What causes a shoulder dislocation?]] - Here's a good example of some spam! You should remove this when you see it! But not this one cause it's a good example!
[[Special:WhatLinksHere/HacDC Wiki:Cleanup 2012]] - Example of a "What links here" link. There's a link in the toolbox (left navigation bar, third box down) on every page that shows you what other pages link to it. Useful if you, say, move (rename) an article, which could break links or cause double redirects.

Another idea: do we have the [https://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Extension:CheckUser CheckUser] extension installed?

Because there's like a dozen users being registered [[Special:Log/newusers|every day]] here, obviously for some kind of spamming purpose, all of which follow the same pattern: FirstnameLastname[three digits]. And the CheckUser extension allows us to give administrators the ability to see the IP addresses used by registered users. I thought it'd help investigating this phenomenon.

As a more longterm project, maybe we could reject any registration of a username fitting that pattern (two camelcase words followed by three digits (m/([A-Z][a-z]){2}\d{3}/)). For legit users, we can just tell them that because of spam problems they'll have to choose another name.

=== [[The Ministers]] ===

=== At Large Directors ===

The At Large Directors are the membership's direct representation on the [[Board of Directors]]. At Large Directors should be regular members who are not involved with the day-to-day running of HacDC. They are there to offer advice and perspective to [[the Ministers]] and act as a form of internal control.

== Current [[Board of Directors]] ==

Below is a list of who currently holds positions on the board of directors.
I'm talking about a particular topic here! Look at me go! Remember to sign your posts by ending them with four tildes: <nowiki>"~~~~"</nowiki>
== Dealing with old pages ==

So from what I understand, we're going to go around labeling pages that are outdated with category tags [[Category:Proposed Projects|category example]], with one category for pages that should be updated and another category for pages that should be removed?

And then we'll update the former and blank the latter?

[[User:NickS|NickS]] 19:57, 28 March 2012 (PDT)

== Getting user IP addresses ==

=== [[The Ministers]] ===

=== At Large Directors ===

The At Large Directors are the membership's direct representation on the [[Board of Directors]]. At Large Directors should be regular members who are not involved with the day-to-day running of HacDC. They are there to offer advice and perspective to [[the Ministers]] and act as a form of internal control.

Became a member in October 2011 but I've been at the space regularly since January (props to [[User:Sitwon|Ben]]'s [[TECS]] class!).

'''Update''': As of February I'm HacDC's Director-At-Large #2, in case you're trying to track down Board members.

I'm a biologist, and at the moment I'm learning bioinformatics at Johns Hopkins.
There I've learned a fair amount of Perl and Java, and I'm pretty comfortable on Unix.

Also, I'm [[wikipedia:User:Qwerty0|on Wikipedia]] a bit so I'm a pretty capable MediaWiki editor.
Oh, and another place I've been involved is the [http://www.archiveteam.org Archive Team]. They do awesome work saving user data from dead and dying sites. And they can always use Unix hackers to help!
So from what I understand, we're going to go around labeling pages that are outdated with category tags [[Category:Proposed Projects|category example]], with one category for pages that should be updated and another category for pages that should be removed?
